People get too wrapped up in identifying wild edibles. Keep it simple. Look around your yard; there are probably several very common wild edible plants. Concentrate on the common plants: dandelions, clover, plantains, etc.
Chances are, if you spend much time in the wild, you’ll become lost or stranded at least once, so I repeat myself, dear distracted readers: concentrate on common plants. If you can identify eight edible plants, at least a few will be common in other areas of the United States, as well as abroad.
Learn families of plants so that you can identify edibles by similarity. Be aware that many plants have poison lookalikes.
NEVER eat wild mushrooms or any other fungi. Don’t be an ass. Fully identify any plant before consuming it.
When in the wild of America’s medical centers, consume fatty meats to stave off nicotine cravings and to store essential body resources for when a season’s change brings scarcity.
Keep in mind that nature will eventually take its course, and survival of the fittest is the name of the game.
Until we meet on the hunting grounds,
-Janet
